The device for catching and cooling the core melt of a nuclear reactor contains a pre-chamber in the reactor shaft, a chamber for spreading the core melt outside the reactor shaft, an inclined channel between them, as well as means for cooling the core melt in a protective shell lined with refractory material from the bottom and walls, according to the utility model, the means of cooling the core melt are made in the form of heat transfer elements of evaporation-condensation type, the evaporating sections of which are installed under the core melt chamber with the formation of thermal contact with the refractory material, and the condensation sections – in the air channel outside the containment.
