A method for producing nanocellulose includes the use of non-wood plant material. Non-wood plant material is treated with a mixture of glacial acetic acid and hydrogen peroxide, alkaline treatment with sodium hydroxide solution, hydrolyzed with sulfuric acid solution. The hydrolyzed cellulose is washed by centrifugation to a neutral pH value and the suspension is sonicated to obtain a nanocellulose gel.
