TRL-2

The development is designed to increase the efficiency of cooling systems of transmitting modules of existing and promising radar systems.

Market and Economic Attractiveness

  • Reducing the temperature of powerful electronic components of transmission modules by 10 ° C leads to an increase in their service life by 2.5-3.5 times and an increase in reliability.
  • The implementation period for the development of a cooling system for antenna array modules based on heat pipes is about 10 months.

Main Advantages (Strengths) of the Device

  • Evaporative condensation systems (heat pipes) are one of the effective elements for removing significant heat flows while reducing thermal resistance. They have super-conductive properties. The equivalent thermal conductivity of such systems reaches 100,000 W/m * K, which is several orders of magnitude more than the most thermally conductive materials like copper, silver and others.
  • In order to reduce the weight and size characteristics of real cooling systems, a range of geometric dimensions of miniature heat pipes was obtained (outside diameter from 2.0 mm to 6 mm, steam space diameter from 1mm to 4mm, length from 150mm to 500mm), thermosyphons (length from 700mm to 2000mm, internal diameter from 3mm to 16mm) and pulsating heat pipes (internal diameter from 1mm to 3mm, number of turns from 1 to 20).

Main Characteristics

  • The use of heat pipes allowed to reduce the maximum temperature of active electronic components by 20.5 ° C (from 78.6 ° C to 58.1 ° C) at a cooling air speed in the radiator channels of 1 m/s

  • The total thermal resistance of the new cooling system at an air speed of 1 m/s decreased by 35.1% compared to the basic version, and at an air speed of 10 m/s - by 50%.
